14 goals in 15 games: Striker Dominic Schermbach (21) from TSV Au has made a rapid ascent to one of the best district class goal getters.

Au / Hallertau  - Everything went well with Dominic Schermbach: The kicker of TSV Au scored 14 goals in the 15 first round games and thus took second place in the top scorer list of district class 3. There are also four assists and a promising third rank for his team. But then the spread of the corona virus forced the compulsory break on Germany's soccer fields. "Of course it's very bitter. We just had a run, ”reports the striker from duty. But there are just more important things.

The 21-year-old, who has been living with a heart defect since birth and therefore belongs to the group of people with previous illnesses that is particularly worth protecting, knows this only too well. The left wing did not have to do without any sporting activity during this time: "The team does coordination exercises by video conference," says Schermbach coach Christian Hobmeier, who considers his striker - district class or not - to be an "absolute model professional". "The Dominic is part of every training session." This attitude is not only evident during normal training times. The 21-year-old is currently keeping himself fit through regular jogging, even though "he doesn't really like this stubborn straight running". He would prefer the bolt in his own garden.

When grandfather taught him to play soccer

The TSV goal-getter is remembering these days how his playing career started in childhood. At that time, his grandfather, who was an enthusiastic footballer himself, taught him to kick in his own garden. The foundation stone was laid here for Schermbach's greatest strengths - its enormous shooting power and its two-footedness. Accordingly Dominic started to kick in the G-youth of the TSV at a young age. The teammates with whom he once started playing football are still part of his team today.

The young striker went through all of the Auer junior teams with them. And finally Schermbach's youth career ended with a high point when he won the district league title with the U 19 of the TSV Au 2017. Without missing one of the 22 games, the then 18-year-old scored an impressive 29 goals. "We were just a strong team," says the attacker, who helped out in the second team from time to time, but quickly realized "that things are physically very different there than in youth".

Dominic Schermbach's breakthrough in the men's area

Schermbach then made the leap into the first team, missing only two mandatory games in the past two seasons. However, it was not yet possible to tie in with his outstanding youth scores - until last summer. “I'm still a newcomer to the men's area. You always learn something new. This season I finally got used to it, ”emphasizes the player.

Coach Christian Hobmeier, on the other hand, sees tactical reasons for the run of his protégé: “The Dominic now plays firmly in the left midfield of our 4-2-3-1 system. From there, he can pull perfectly into the middle and pull from 20 or 25 meters. ”This reminds a little of Arjen Robben's well-known running route - only from the left midfield position instead of from the right. "It was important to me that he not only pulls off with the full span at the end, but also sometimes uses the inside."

Under these conditions, Schermbach finally scored 14 times until the winter break. In addition to the decisive late goals against Marzling and Paunzhausen, the game against SG Eichenfeld in particular stands out: “In the first half I was a little stinky because I didn't do so much. After the break, the knot broke. ”Schermbach then scored four goals in the second 45 minutes - final score: 10: 0 for the Hallertauer.

Via video conference for a beer

A third of TSV's goals go to Schermbach's account, but you don't see any dependency on his missions in Au: “We have a complete team. Our advantage is that everyone can score goals, ”confirms the attacker. Again and again the young footballer emphasizes how much he cares about the entire team. "With us everyone helps everyone, there is no pecking order." Especially in times of exit restrictions, he was looking forward to drinking a beer with the teammates via video conference. "It's always very funny." That is precisely why it is difficult for the 21-year-old to change clubs in the near future. After his successful A youth season, other clubs had already knocked, but Schermbach declined. He wanted to continue playing with his youth friends. "It's always nice when someone reports. If the situation arises in the future, you can still think about it. "
