Monte Carlo (dpa) - Long-time Formula 1 driver Nico Hülkenberg (32) can also imagine a comeback outside the premier class of motorsport.
"It depends on the sporting perspective. Formula 1 is of course the premier class, but there are other attractive series. And if there is no good possibility in Formula 1, then I will also look around," said Hülkenberg the Interview with the German press agency. The Rhinelander had driven for Renault until the end of last season and is now in a break.
Hülkenberg reported on various offers from motorsport. "It is reassuring and positive. At the same time, I noticed that the hunger for racing is still there and that I will definitely put my hand in the steering wheel again," said the Emmericher. "At the moment, however, a lot is unpredictable, teams are fighting for their survival. The driver question is not the most pressing one."
The planned budget limit in Formula 1 is supported by Hülkenberg. "The difference between what the big teams want to spend and what the small teams can spend has definitely become too extreme. The gap is wide. That is why a budget limit makes perfect sense and should come," he said. "In the end, Formula One is entertainment, and I don't think a team has to spend hundreds of millions of dollars on good entertainment." The cap per team is expected to amount to 133 million euros from 2021 onwards to contain the costs.
