The district-famous footballer Luigi Martorana does not want Corona to send him into retirement. So the 36-year-old continues in Perchting.
Perchting - Luigi Martorana is one of the few enviable people who currently have no complaints about lack of work. The 36-year-old is on the road in the hygiene industry and, as sales manager for his company CWS, looks after customers in Austria. "The demand is great," says Martorana.
Since he can also offer his customers hygiene concepts, he is constantly on the move between Bregenz and Burgenland from Monday to Thursday. If Martorana is one of the winners on the job, the Corona crisis in football has put a spanner in the works.
Martorana: "Doesn't want Corona to send me a pension"
The kicker actually wanted to end his career at TSV Perchting-Hadorf this spring. Since the Bavarian Football Association (BFV) has decided to possibly extend the season to 2021, the seasoned player faces a new situation. "I don't want Corona to send me retirement," he clarifies. He doesn't want to miss his farewell on the lawn.
It is obvious that the former top scorer in the district's top league would soon like to cut back on sport. Professionally, he is hard at work, even if he is supported by a team of nine people. In addition, his family and his three children also demand their rights.
Not a regular place in Perchting, but a lot of routine and quality
There is not much time left to train. Only Thursday is available as an appointment. It is not an issue for him that he cannot therefore guarantee a permanent place with coach Christoph Kammerlander. "That would not be fair," says Martorana. He had no problem lagging behind those who appear twice a week on a regular basis.
The time that Martorana has been able to invest so far was sufficient to safely direct the actions of the district classic from the central defensive midfield. His years of experience in higher leagues is worth its weight in gold for the newcomer who, as fourth in the table, still has the best prospects of kicking in the district league next season. But when exactly?
In the district league with TSV Perchting?
Since the association understandably cannot set a fixed schedule for when the 2019/20 season ends and the 2020/21 season begins, Martorana's future career planning at TSV is completely up in the air. "If you improvise now, you'll have to improvise next year," says the midfielder. His advice to the Bavarian soccer bosses is therefore: "If you don't know how to proceed after this round, you should stop."
The cleaner has already defined his own schedule before the defense. Since he still has enough motivation ("I'm getting more ambitious from year to year"), Martorana wants to play for Perching's first team as long as he can. "I can't make friends with the old men yet," he admits, "I'm not ready yet".
Martorana: "Nothing helps, then I have to keep playing"
He would rather go into the district league with his team, even if he might have been under his belt for 38 years. "Then I just have to keep playing," says Martorana, "nothing helps."
