VfB Stuttgart does not want to accept the controversial decision at 1: 2 in Wiesbaden and protests. However, other appeals in the 2nd Bundesliga have already been dismissed this season.

Stuttgart (dpa) - VfB Stuttgart has appealed to the German Football Association (DFB) against the rating of its 1: 2 loss at SV Wehen Wiesbaden. The Swabian second division said.

The game was decided by a penalty for the Hesse after video evidence in added time. VfB sports director Sven Mislintat justified the protest, saying the referee's behavior was "a rule violation" with a direct impact on the end result.

At the restart in Stuttgart after the compulsory corona virus break, referee Sascha Stegemann had decided on contractions for contractions after checking the video images and after consulting video assistant Robert Kampka. The decision was preceded by a suspected handball by VfB striker Hamadi Al Ghaddioui in the penalty area.

The DFB found the penalty "technically correct", but also recognized an error in the use of the video evidence. Kampka's recommendation to Stegemann to look at the controversial scene on a screen in the stadium was considered "inappropriate" because Stegemann's misjudgment had not been clear beforehand. Mislintat had described the manner of the decision as a "scandal" before the objection and had fundamentally questioned the use of the video evidence.

Wehen coach Rüdiger Rehm doesn't believe that VfB will be successful. "It was certainly a bizarre situation, but it was not an obvious mistake," said Rehm on Wednesday. "So I know how the appeal is passed on." The DFB announced that it would seek comments from those involved: "In due course, a decision will be made on how to proceed further."

This season, several appeals in the 2nd Bundesliga before the DFB sports court have failed. At the beginning of March the result of the game Dynamo Dresden against SV Darmstadt 98 remained (2: 3), although referee Michael Bacher admitted a wrong decision. The protests by Wehen Wiesbaden after a loss at Dynamo Dresden and Hannover 96 after a lost game against Darmstadt 98 had also been rejected.
