Fernando Alonso before Formula 1 comeback? He is fueling speculation

Alonso back to Renault? In the best memory

Alonso had left Formula 1 in frustration at the end of the 2018 season. After winning the title in 2005 and 2006 in a duel with Michael Schumacher, the Asturian had failed in the hunt for further World Cup triumphs and most recently only followed in the McLaren. This year Alonso took part in the Dakar Rally. He has also tried the World Endurance Championship and the IndyCar series.

In Formula 1, the driver market had recently gotten into motion. The Spaniard Carlos Sainz succeeds Sebastian Vettel * at Ferrari in 2021. The cockpit of Sainz at McLaren is taken over by Australian Daniel Ricciardo, who is leaving Renault.

However, it seems rather questionable whether the French team wants to pay the million-dollar fee for Alonso in view of the economic consequences of the Corona crisis and whether he is still relying on the Spaniards even at an advanced age. Several media had recently reported on discussions between the team and the old master. Alonso drove for Renault from 2003 to 2006 as well as 2008 and 2009.
