Seefeld (dpa) - The Olympia region Seefeld hopes that the German national team will continue to prepare for the European Football Championship postponed to 2021 in Tyrol.
"Both parties have signaled that we are postponing the training camp and not canceling it," said the managing director of the Olympic region, Elias Walser, the German press agency. "We assume that the DFB will be with us next year," said Walser. A decision is expected this summer.
Originally, national coach Joachim Löw would have moved into the Austrian holiday resort in the wellness hotel Nidum with the expanded EM squad of captain Manuel Neuer at the beginning of next week. "To welcome the German national team would have been a great honor for us," said hotel manager Maximilian Pinzger of dpa: "Unfortunately, everything has changed with Corona." Pinzger also wants Löw and Co. to check in at his house in a year.
The European Football Union (UEFA) had postponed the European Championship finals by one year due to the coronavirus pandemic. The pan-European tournament is now scheduled to take place from June 11 to July 11, 2021.
The German Football Association assumes that the European Championship will continue to take place in twelve countries. One of the venues would be Munich, where the DFB selection would play their group games against world champions France and defending champions Portugal, among others.
In Seefeld, too, they hope that UEFA will stick to the original tournament concept - and that the DFB team with Löw will be a guest in the Alpine community near Innsbruck in just twelve months.
