Horror accident! German top athlete rams stick through the leg

Horror accident in the training of German winter sports professionals. World Cup participant Jessica Löschke crashed unhappily. An emergency surgery saved her career.

The top athletes of the German Ski Association started their preparation in Oberwiesenthal in Saxony . But the return to team training is overshadowed by a dramatic accident . Cross-country ace Jessica Löschke was seriously injured .

The forest run in the Ore Mountains is an integral part of the DSV training , and almost routine even for the 20-year-old World Cup participant . The condition unit was almost a terrible tragedy this time. An unfortunate fall almost ended the career of the cross-country skier .

Jessica Löschke slipped during cross-country skiing and rammed her ski pole through her calf . The professionals use poles with sharp steel tips for off-road training . Bild.de reports of blood, screaming and a brilliantly responding  trainer who immediately called the fire brigade .

Dresden: Ski ace Jessica Löschke seriously injured - with stick in the leg in the university clinic

The helpers could do little on site . Simply pulling the stick out would have been far too dangerous. Therefore, he was cut on both sides and the athlete was flown to Dresden with a ski pole in her leg . 

An emergency operation was immediately initiated in the university clinic . She saved Jessica Löschke's career . But there was more to it than that. " Jessica was very lucky in the accident, " reports DSV team doctor Dr. Tom Kastner, "neither blood vessels nor nerves were hit by the stick." The young cross-country skier will soon be able to play competitive sports again . According to the picture, she could start training again in June.

A possible Olympic participation will surely motivate Löscke on the comeback . While the Summer Olympics * cannot take place this year * due to the corona pandemic, the Winter Olympics 2022 in Beijing will most likely take place as planned.
