Rome (AP) - The Italian Serie A can continue on June 20 after a three and a half month long Corona lock.

"Italy is starting the restart and it is therefore right that football should also start again," said Minister of Sport Vincenzo Spadafora after a teleconference with the football association FIGC and Lega Serie A. He hoped that the outstanding cup semi-finals the week before can be played.

There are twelve match days in the battle for the championship. The season had been interrupted on March 9th. All of Italy had a hard lockdown on March 10 due to the Corona crisis. The country is one of the world's hardest hit by Covid-19 lung disease. FIGC President Gabriele Gravina called the restart "a message of hope for the whole country".

Since May 4, players have been able to train individually, and since mid-May they have been able to complete group training again. When restarting, a strict security protocol applies, which the technical committee advising the government had approved. It is played without fans. The protocol includes virus testing for the teams and two weeks of quarantine for the team should a member test positive.

Record champions Juventus Turin are at the top of the table, followed by Lazio and Inter Milan. The semi-finals of Naples-Inter and Juventus-AC Milan are still pending in the cup. According to the media, they could take place on June 13 and 14.
