THE SCAN SPORT - Eric Bauthéac had his identity stolen during his time in Ligue 1 with Dijon in the early 2010s.

Former attacking midfielder Eric Bauthéac has fond memories with the Dijon club (2010-2012). But according to information from the  Public Good, during this period, he was the victim of identity theft which he became aware of a few years later and which has had consequences in recent years in Australia, but especially in Germany where he has been prohibited from leaving an airport . After his visits to Nice and Lille in Ligue 1, the player decides to play abroad, especially in Australia. In 2017, he signed a contract with Brisbane Roar FC and encountered difficulties in recovering his visa, but it was above all his arrival on Australian territory that marked him. "I am arrested by customs. I check my passport for five to six minutes. Normally, you arrive, you give your passport, they scan it and you leave. At the time, I tell myself that these Australians are long, but no more ... ”, recalls Eric Bauthéac.

After a season in the land of kangaroos, he returned to France, to Nice, but the customs again blocked him at the airport and recognized him. "Eric, do you know that normally we should take you to the station and not even let you enter French territory?" Astonished, the player asks them for explanations. "At the time when you were playing in Dijon, there was someone who usurped your identity and has since pretended to be you. It is not the worst. The one who has usurped your identity is wanted all over the world, ”the authorities tell him. Indeed, the individual in question was wanted for terrorism.

Complications in Germany

In France, the player was able to easily prove that he was innocent thanks, in particular, to his football career in Ligue 1. But on his return from Cyprus recently, where he played this season, Eric Bauthéac stopped over in Frankfurt, Germany , and things get complicated. "They searched me from top to bottom, the suitcases too," he says. And even though he has presented the identity theft complaint that he still has with him, the authorities prohibit him from leaving the airport. “I arrived at 5:00 pm in Germany on Saturday and I had to fly to Paris at 8:30 am on Sunday. In the meantime, I wanted to take a hotel and come back the next morning. But they didn't let me out of the airport, ”he recalls.

Behind, I have no solution. Until he is arrested, I will always be bored. It's not possible, I'm not going to do this all my life, ”he concluded the interview at the  Bien Public .
