Kirchheim - Despite easing, the more than 180 sports clubs in the Munich district are still struggling with the corona pandemic. Munich's Merkur has started a survey among the clubs: What does the closure mean for them? What reactions are there from the members? How long do the finances last and what help do they want? At the beginning of the series "Sports Clubs in the Corona Crisis", which we publish in loose order, Maximilian Wieser, club manager of Kirchheimer SC answers our questions.
What impact did the temporary cessation of sports have on your club?
First of all, the discontinuation of the sports business meant that our club life came to a standstill. Therefore we tried to create alternative offers for some of the members. Videos were shot that were published on the homepage to offer members alternatives for at home. We tried to develop suitable offers for all age and target groups. There are now offers on our homepage focusing on stabilization, cardiovascular, Pilates, fascia regeneration or short programs for seniors.
Are there more and more memberships being terminated, or the opposite: Memberships, in any case, to remain in times of crisis and beyond?
Memberships are canceled all year round. So far, there have been no layoffs due to the corona crisis and the consequent cessation of sports operations. We assume that our members understand the current situation, show solidarity and remain loyal to Kirchheimer SC. We are very grateful.

What (financial) perspective do you see for your club after the weeks-long ban on sports? Until when do you see your club able to act?
As a mass sports club, we finance ourselves to a large extent through membership fees and hope to survive the crisis in an economically sound manner. We have seen an enormous drop in revenues, especially in sports operations, but there are also fewer costs. Larger purchases are put on hold and are currently not being carried out.
What help do you expect from sports organizations, professional associations or politics?
The associations of the individual sports pretty much indicate the conditions under which the training can be resumed. Although this is a considerable effort in the implementation, it is very helpful. The Free State of Bavaria doubled the club fee this year. This helps avoid some financial constraints. The opportunity to apply for short-time work benefits creates another opportunity to reduce them.

Are there any initiatives of your club in Corona times (shopping offers for older people, etc.)?
Our 2nd soccer team ran a fundraiser. Each player or trainer has run, skated or cycled for himself. They donated a certain amount for each kilometer run / driven. The amount achieved was then increased by a few donors, so that € 1000 could be handed over to the Tafel Kirchheim. The 1st soccer team bought so-called relief vouchers, a campaign of the community, from their team fund, worth € 500. Vouchers are bought and the money goes directly to the respective company. The vouchers will be redeemed later. mm
