Munich (dpa) - For Oliver Kahn, the Munich Allianz Arena would be a suitable venue for a possible ending of the Champions League in tournament form.
"That would certainly not be wrong," said the FC Bayern board member on Sunday evening on the TV show "Sky 90". But there are certainly other cities that could be considered, added the former soccer goalkeeper.
The 50-year-old is excited to see what form the continuation of the competition the European Football Union (UEFA) will choose in mid-June. There is currently a lot of discussion, for example about the quarter and semi-finals with only one knockout each. "We take it as it comes," said Kahn, who, however, described the first and second legs as a "better solution".
The competition was interrupted in the round of 16. Bayern also have to play the return leg in Munich after a 3-0 first leg win at Chelsea. After the planned end of the Bundesliga season at the end of June, it could be problematic to bridge the "relatively long time" until the Champions League continues in August. "There are a lot of uncertainties floating around at the moment," said Kahn.
The finals of the premier class had previously been planned in Istanbul, according to a report by the "New York Times" the game will be relocated to another location. A decision could be made at a meeting of the UEFA Executive Committee on June 17.
