The triple Olympic gold medalist from Melbourne in 1956 died on Saturday at the age of 84 in his Texas home. For many experts, Morrow was considered the largest white sprinter in history.

After him, what he achieved was only achieved by the world-famous sprinters Carl Lewis and Usain Bolt. After Jesse Owens in Berlin in 1936, he was only the second sprinter to achieve the legendary triple (100 meters, 200 meters and 4x100 meters in the relay). 

Lewis did it in 1984, Bolt in 2008, 2012 and 2016. The Jamaican Bolt * 2008 was subsequently stripped of the relay gold. Morrow retired in 1958 at the age of 22 and became a farmer, after a short comeback in 1960 he finally ended his career.

The then student at Abilene Christian University won the 100 and 200 meters in Melbourne. As the final runner, Morrow also led the Americans' 4x100 meter relay to a gold medal - in the world record time of 39.5 seconds. Behind the Soviet Union, the German relay team had fought bronze with Heinz Fütterer and Manfred Germar. Morrow was inducted into the US Athletics Hall of Fame in 1989.
