Munich / Dallas - Dirk Nowitzki is actually not a man of big words. He usually let actions or athletic achievements speak for themselves. Even at the end of his career last year, he made no big speech. It almost seemed as if Nowitzki was too much of a hype about himself. 

One of the greatest basketball legends resigned on April 11, 2019 - after 1,522 games in the NBA and 31,560 points. Since then, things have become very quiet around the native of Würzburg. At the beginning of the year, Nowitzki mourned the life of another US superstar. Lakers legend Kobe Bryant * died in a helicopter crash * in Los Angeles. 

But after the violent death of African-American George Floyd last week by a US police officer and the escalation in US society that followed, the 41-year-old has now moved on Instagram with moving words.

"With my heart I am with the Floyd family and all families affected by racism and social injustice ", Nowitzki wrote there: "I am devastated and sad that we see this over and over again. I'm afraid for my children's future. Many families have had this feeling for generations. We have to change something! "

The basketball legend asks: “Can't we be nice and respectful? Can't we listen and learn from each other? Can't we raise our children like that? You have my promise. You have my support. You have my ears and my voice, ” Nowitzki wrote .

He will give expression to this by "supporting an organization that is leading this powerful and overdue change in our society."

Nowitzki lives with his wife Jessica Olsson and the three children in Dallas / Texas after the end of his career in 2019 and already supports the children's aid organization UNICEF and non-profit organizations in Texas.

Floyd had died in a police operation in Minneapolis last week after a white policeman stuck his knee on his neck for minutes. Since then, protests and demonstrations have occurred in numerous US cities, which have often been suppressed by police force.
