Chicago (dpa) - Basketball legend Michael Jordan wants to advance the fight against racism in the next ten years with a donation totaling $ 100 million (around 88 million euros).
The money should flow to organizations that are committed to equality, social justice and educational opportunities, said a statement from Jordan's spokeswoman.
57-year-old Jordan had previously been "sad, really tormented, and just angry" about the brutal death of African-American George Floyd in Minneapolis. Floyd had died after a police operation, and his death had triggered a wave of protests against racism and police violence in the United States.
"Black lives count. As long as deep-rooted racism (...) in our country is not completely eradicated, we will continue to protect and improve the lives of black people," said the statement by the six-time NBA champion.
