Bielefeld (dpa) - Second division leader Arminia Bielefeld has again gambled away valuable points in front of their home crowd on the way back to the Bundesliga.
The team of coach Uwe Neuhaus did not go beyond a 1-1 (1-1) against relegation-threatened 1. FC Nürnberg on Saturday despite clear advantages. Goal scorer Fabian Klos gave East Westphalia the lead with his 18th goal of the season (14th minute). Patrick Erras equalized for the Franks shortly before the break (44th). With 57 points, the lead of Arminia after the second home defeat after the restart on the third Hamburger SV is eight points.
The leader quickly took control of the game. After striker Klos was unlucky with a shot on the outside post in the ninth minute, he hit his header for his 18th goal of the season a little later. However, Klos could not expand his personal record because he failed again on the outside post. The defensive club then used one of its few options when Erras headed under the bar to equalize after a corner.
In the second half, a balanced game developed in which the guests had a great opportunity to lead thanks to Fabian Schleusener (63.). Nuremberg's well-placed goalkeeper Christian Mathenia prevented the second goal from Bielefeld's Andreas Voglsammer (79th) on the other side.
