Michael Schumacher is one of the greatest legends in Formula 1 history. He once did a mega-favor for his brother Ralf - it was about a lot of money.

  • Michael Schumacher invested a large chunk of money in his younger brother Ralf in the late 1990s.
  • Ex-Formula 1 owner Eddie Jordan chats out of the box how the deal came about.
  • Then Ralf Schumacher left the racing team and switched to the competition.

Munich - In 1999 Ralf Schumacher changed from Jordan to Williams in exchange for Heinz-Harald Frentzen . A deal that many  Formula 1 * experts met with skepticism. Ex-team owner Eddie Jordan has now revealed: Without brother Michael this exchange would not have been possible!

According to the seven-time world champion in 1998, he bought his younger brother Ralf out of his contract with the Jordan racing team: " Michael paid me two million pounds to tear the contract with Ralf apart," Jordan said in a YouTube interview with Formula 1 * journalist Peter Windsor. Two million pounds is the equivalent of more than 2.2 million euros.

Eddie Jordan was notorious at the time for not letting his drivers drop out of current contracts. The Schumacher coal should be one of the rare exceptions. "I was very happy, I have to say. It is true. Nobody ever crossed the doorstep at Jordan without someone paying for it. In that case it was Michael Schumacher, ”said the Irishman.

In any case, the change should pay off for Ralf . While Michael drove a world title for Ferrari with Ferrari , the younger Schumacher celebrated his first Formula 1 * victory in the Williams cockpit . And the exchange should also be worthwhile for Heinz-Harald Frentzen . The Mönchengladbacher even drove for the World Cup crown in the 1999 season. Against Mika Häkkinen he was the loser. Jordan is certain: Frentzen “could easily have won several world titles. In my eyes, he had only one small mistake, namely that he believed too little in himself. ”In some cases, Frentzen was even faster than Formula 1 * king  Michael Schumacher

With Sebastian Vettel another German may soon leave Formula One. After his Ferrari retirement, his future is still in the stars.
