Can Eintracht dupe Bayern again? Frankfurt coach summons the final spirit of 2018 before the duel in Munich. Thomas Müller waves a cup record, the guests lack the top scorer.
Munich (dpa) - An endgame participant has already been determined. And in the evening Bayer Leverkusen will find out who they can fight for on the "Pott" on July 4th in Berlin: defending champion and record winner FC Bayern or the Cup specialists from Eintracht Frankfurt.
In the second semi-finals on Wednesday (8:45 p.m. / ARD and Sky) in the Munich soccer arena, host Bayern is the clear favorite. And coach Hansi Flick is convinced of the success of his team. "I have the feeling that the team knows exactly what is going on. They are there 100 percent in every game," said the 55-year-old.
REVANCHE: Bayern vs. Frankfurt - was there something? On May 19, 2018, Eintracht surprisingly triumphed with the future Bayern coach Niko Kovac in the final in the Berlin Olympic Stadium with 3: 1 against FC Bayern with coach legend Jupp Heynckes, who was also clearly favored at the time. "We don't want to experience that again at the Allianz Arena," said captain Manuel Neuer about the targeted revenge. Eintracht trainer Adi Hütter wants to "make the impossible possible" again and conjures up the spirit of Berlin. "It is important that you believe in it. Bayern were also favorites in 2018," said Hütter.
DAUERBRENNER: Bayern are in the semi-finals for the eleventh time in a row - that is a cup record. The record winner (19 times) is aiming for the 24th final. The record of the duels with Eintracht in Munich speaks clearly for the hosts: Bayern have been undefeated against Frankfurt for 15 home games. Recently there were eleven wins in a row. The youngest - a 5-2 in the Bundesliga - was just 18 days ago. Hesse's last away win was in November 2000. Alexander Schur and Norway's Jan Åge Fjørtoft scored 2-1 in the Bundesliga two decades ago.
BAYERN-PERSONAL: Flick actually has no reason to change the starting formation of the recent 4-2 in Leverkusen. He is glad that Robert Lewandowski and Thomas Müller can also appear in the cup. Both saw the fifth yellow card of the season against Bayer. The duo only have to serve the suspension on Saturday in the point game against Borussia Mönchengladbach. "They can go full throttle against Frankfurt for 90 minutes," commented Flick. The 30-year-old Müller has a record: If he progressed against Frankfurt, the ex-international would equal 47 wins in the DFB Cup with the Munich record winners Sepp Maier and Gerd Müller.
EINTRACHT-PERSONAL: The Frankfurt team have to compete in the current cup competition without their top scorer. Filip Kostic (three goals, two assists) had seen the red card in added time in the quarterfinals against Bremen after a violent foul on Werder professional Ömer Toprak. Episode: Four games suspended for the winger.
