Berlin (dpa) - The final tournament of the Champions League should take place in Lisbon, the remaining games of the Europa League are apparently awarded to Germany.
This is reported by the "Bild" newspaper and Sky Sport Italia. Accordingly, on August 8 and 9, the four remaining round of 16 second leg matches, including that of Bayern Munich against Chelsea (first leg: 3-0), will be played in Portugal's capital. Then it goes on in tournament mode (only one game each). The final is scheduled for August 22 or 23, a week earlier than originally planned. There is still no confirmation from the European Football Union, UEFA had always referred to its executive meeting on June 17.
As the "Bild" reports further, the final tournament of the Europa League should go to North Rhine-Westphalia with the venues Cologne, Düsseldorf, Gelsenkirchen, Duisburg. Three German clubs (Bayer Leverkusen, VfL Wolfsburg and Eintracht Frankfurt) are still represented in the competition.
In Lisbon, the final will take place in the stadium da Luz of Benfica, the second venue is the José Alvalade stadium of Sporting Lisbon. In addition to Bayern, RB Leipzig is also there, the Saxons have already qualified for the quarterfinals.
Originally, the finals were to be played in Istanbul (Champions League) and Gdansk (Europa League), but were canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic. There will also be a final tournament in the Champions League for women, according to Sky Sport Italia Spain will be awarded the contract. The men's European Super Cup final will then take place in Budapest.
