Leader MSV Duisburg misses the third win in a row, Eintracht Braunschweig continues its run: Even after 32 match days, the promotion race in the 3rd football league is gripping. In the relegation battle, however, the first decision was made.
Duisburg (dpa) - The promotional race of the 3rd football league continues to worsen, in the relegation battle there is the first decision. Despite the 0: 0 against KFC Uerdingen, FC Carl Zeiss Jena has no chance of remaining in the class with six outstanding games.
At the top of the table, MSV Duisburg made a small mistake and prevented a defeat in the 1-1 draw (0-1) against the Würzburg Kickers on Saturday. Substitute Kurt Karweina secured the Revierclub one point with his goal in the 92nd minute.
"We gave away the victory. We had it well under control and didn't allow anything," said Würzburg's top goal scorer Hendrik Hansen on Magentasport. "Then we did a little too little forward and catch the shit goal. You can speak of two lost points," said Hansen disappointed.
Duisburg missed their third win in a row and with 55 points after 32 game days has only one point more than the pursuers FC Bayern Munich II and Eintracht Braunschweig. The Bayern-Reserve not entitled to promotion defeated pursuer SV Waldhof Mannheim 3: 2 (3: 1) on Sunday, Braunschweig won 2: 1 (1: 0) against relegation candidate SG Sonnenhof Großaspach and remains in the fifth game after the Corona break unbeaten. Würzburg is in wait with 51 points - tied with FC Hansa Rostock. Rostock had their third success in a row at 1-0 (0-0) at 1860 Munich.
Bottom end Jena is already determined early as the first relegation. The Thuringians won a point against Uerdingen on Sunday. After the 3: 3 (2: 2) tie between FSV Zwickau and SpVgg Unterhaching, the move to the regional league is finally sealed. So far, Jena has only achieved 19 points and four wins this season after 32 games and has seldom shown a similarly fierce appearance as against Uerdingen.
The 1. FC Kaiserslautern meanwhile got some air in the relegation battle and can slowly but surely plan for another year in the 3rd league. The traditional club defeated Chemnitz FC 2-0 (0-0) and extended their lead over 17th to seven points. Viktoria Köln, however, suffered another setback. The Rheinländer lost 0: 2 (0: 1) at 1. FC Magdeburg and are only one point ahead of the relegation zone.
