Berlin (dpa) - FC Bayern has reached its goal and has secured the German soccer championship for the 30th time. The Munich team won on Tuesday with the relegation-threatened ex-rival Werder Bremen 1-0 (1-0).

With ten points ahead of Borussia Dortmund, Hansi Flick's team can no longer be pushed out of first place before the last two match days of the season.

SC Paderborn, on the other hand, is the first relegated team. The East Westphalia lost 0: 1 (0: 1) at Union Berlin and have to start again after only one year. This continues to threaten Bremen, who are penultimate with 28 points and hope for defeats by Mainz 05 (31) and Fortuna Düsseldorf (28) on Wednesday.

In the race for the Champions League spots, Borussia Mönchengladbach put Western rival Bayer Leverkusen under pressure. The team of coach Marco Rose won against VfL Wolfsburg 3-0 (2-0) and thus again passed Bayer Leverkusen. The Werkself can pass again on Wednesday with a victory in the derby against 1. FC Köln. In addition, SC Freiburg won Hertha BSC 2-1 (0-0).

Werder defied Bayern for long stretches, but Robert Lewandowski made the difference again. The Pole already marked his 31st goal of the season in the 43rd minute. For Munich, it was the 21st competitive win in a row against the Bremen team, who once fought big title fights with Bayern. In the final phase, Werder pushed for equalization, especially after Alphonso Davies had seen the yellow-red card (79.).

Cheers at Bayern, disappointment in Paderborn. For the SCP, the second Bundesliga season in club history also ends with direct relegation. An own goal by Ben Zolinski (27th) also left Paderborn behind. Co-promoters Berlin, however, are saved.

Twice Jonas Hofmann (10./30.) And Lars Stindl (65.) scored the goals for Borussia, who had to do without their injured top scorers Marcus Thuram and Alassane Plea. For Thuram, the season is also over, as coach Marco Rose announced: "No chance with Marcus. The season is over. We're slowly talking about an operation." Plea will only be used in the last game of the season against Hertha BSC on June 27th.

For Hertha, however, the season will end with a place in the secure midfield. With the goals of Freiburg's Vincenzo Grifo (61.) and Nils Petersen (71.) the last hopes for a European Cup participation were dashed. Vedad Ibisevic had meanwhile compensated for the Berlin penalty kick (66th).
