Originally scheduled for May 27, the executive committee of the European body will take place this Wednesday and Thursday. Important decisions v

By postponing its executive committee from May 27 to June 17 and 18, UEFA wanted to see more clearly about the development of the health crisis and the calendars of the various European championships. This three-week deadline has allowed her to refine the schedule for the end of the Champions League and the Europa League, which she will unveil this Wednesday.

But the European confederation wanted above all to take the time to examine "certain uncertainties concerning several sites of Euro 2020", which will take place in 2021 (June 11 - July 11). Three host cities notably expressed doubts about their capacity to host matches after the postponement.

UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin of Slovenia said: "We will continue the discussions, and in principle we will maintain the Euro in twelve cities. If not, we are ready to do it in ten, nine or eight cities. London or Munich would thus be ready to receive additional matches.

In countries severely affected by Covid-19, Rome and Bilbao have expressed their reluctance to get involved. Copenhagen, which is to host three Group B matches (including Denmark-Belgium) and a round of 16, but also… the start of the Tour de France (July 2 - 25, 2021), also questioned the feasibility of this double organization. Finally, the Danish capital declared itself able to fulfill its role.

As a reminder, the Blues of Didier Deschamps must evolve in Budapest and Munich.

The final list of host cities

All these questions and others will therefore be addressed during the executive committee which will take place in the form of videoconferences this Wednesday from noon and Thursday morning.

In addition to the rest of the Champions League and the Europa League, UEFA will also be looking into the quarter-finals of the Women's Champions League (with PSG and Lyon) and the rest of the Youth League (with the OL).

Euro 2020 - the name has been kept - will therefore be the other major issue to be clarified. The final list of host cities and the calendar will be established. The play-offs and the group stage of the League of Nations will be rescheduled. The calendar and formula of the European Under-21 Championship will also be formalized.

On Thursday, other points will also be studied: the procedure for the draw for qualifications for the 2022 World Cup or the new regulations around financial fair play.
