The UEFA Executive Committee will meet today at 12 noon on Wednesday. Pioneering decisions are pending. The appointment puzzle after the Corona crisis is extremely complex.

Nyon (dpa) - UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin has to weigh carefully with the delegates of his executive committee during today's video conference (from 12 noon).

Any wrong decision for the European Cup, the calendar from September or the EM 2020 can have serious consequences. An overview of the three major areas of tension.

EUROPEAN CUP:

In August, the remaining games are to be played centrally in one country at the latest from the quarter-finals in the Champions League and the Europa League. Favored as host for the Europa League: Germany with Cologne as the supposed final location, Düsseldorf, Gelsenkirchen and Duisburg. Lisbon has an advantage in the premier class. The possible final date of the Champions League is August 23 after the semi-finals on August 18 and 19 and the quarter-finals from August 12 to 15. It is also necessary to decide how to deal with the round of 16 outstanding in both competitions.

In the Champions League, RB Leipzig is already in the quarter-finals, FC Bayern shortly before. The Munich team still have to play their second leg against Chelsea (first leg: 3-0). In the Europa League, Eintracht Frankfurt have to catch up after defeating FC Basel 3-0 and VfL Wolfsburg after defeating Shakhtar Donetsk 1-2. Bayer Leverkusen won the first knockout round at Glasgow Rangers 3-1.

It is still unclear whether newcomers may play in the final tournaments this summer or not. And because the actual final locations of Istanbul (Champions League) and Gdansk (Europa League) will not come into play, UEFA should try to compensate. In the premier class, however, the finals are given up to and including 2023 - including 2022 to Munich.

EM 2020:

After moving the tournament to the summer of 2021 (June 11 to July 11), UEFA will have to confirm the host cities. It is questionable whether all twelve will stay on board. "With nine cities, everything is regulated," said Ceferin. The plan with twelve stadiums is still in place, but if necessary "ten, nine or eight" would do so. While Munich, where three group games and a quarter-finals are expected to rise, has already made its promise public, Bilbao, for example, is considered a shaky candidate. The venues of Rome and Baku also seem uncertain. A possible bonus for Munich: The Allianz Arena would certainly be a candidate to take over games from missing venues.

SCHEDULE:

The German national team hasn't played a game since November 19, 2019 - the break could still go on a little longer. Two games in the Nations League have been scheduled for the beginning of September. Germany are scheduled to play Spain on September 3 and Switzerland three days later. However, priority should be given to the playoffs for the European Championship. 16 teams are involved in twelve outstanding games for four European Championship participants. In October and November, further periods of suspension follow - the Nations League may therefore not start until autumn. Always on the condition that there is largely freedom of travel again.
