Inter Milan qualified for the quarter-finals of the Europa League by defeating a tough Getafe (2-0) on Wednesday, with another goal from their top scorer Romelu Lukaku in Gelsenkirchen.
Fearsome since the resumption in mid-June - only one defeat in the last 12 days of Serie A - after three months of stoppage due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Inter has a good shot to play in this C3: it will find in quarterfinals Bayer Leverkusen or Glasgow Rangers.
Inter got hot
The vice-champions of Italy, immediately pressed by Getafe, opened the scoring in the 33rd minute by Lukaku. The third Serie A scorer this season (23 goals), launched on the edge of offside on a long opening from Bastoni, resisted Etxeita to score with a cross shot from the left.
In the second half, Inter were very hot. Getafe striker Jorge Molina missed the equalizer by pulling his penalty too far to the left (76th), caused by a hand from Diego Godin. The Interists doubled the lead in the wake, by Christian Eriksen (83rd).
