Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu says he is convinced Lionel Messi will retire at the club in 3-4 years. Messi, 33, is under contract at Blaugrana until June 2021 and has not yet signed a contract extension. "Not only do I think so, Leo has also always said that he wants to end his professional career at Barcelona, I think it's the club of his life, it's the best club for him."
Reports that Inter want to seal the flea and further reports claiming that Messi is fed up with the club captains' conduct and will not renew the contract, have led to speculation that the player may leave the Camp Nou next summer. Bartomeu, for his part, is not worried: "I'm sure the contract extension will happen. I have no doubt that Leo will retire at Barcelona in three or four years' time."
The incumbent president added: "He came to the club when he was young, he grew up here, he is a very important part of our history, he is the best player in history and he is in Barcelona."
