About five months after being stopped due to the Corona virus, the Champions League went straight back to the quarter-final rematch and as usual provided suspense, drama and quite a few surprises.

Lyon and Manchester City, two who have never won the factory, join in the quarter-finals with four more who have never lifted the trophy - Atletico Madrid, RB Leipzig, Atalanta and PSG. This means that the champion of wins Real Madrid and the king of the factory Cristiano Ronaldo finished their way already in the quarterfinals.

Real Madrid's task was particularly difficult. She had to go through a knockout for the first time in her history after a home loss in the first game, and she had to do it without the far-fetched Sergio Ramos and against the great Manchester City. To that end, Zinedine Zidane put Eden Hazard and Rodrigo at 11 alongside Krim Benzema, but his problems were concentrated in the back.

Rafael Varane, apparently in his worst game of his career, made a big mistake twice and prevented the Blancos from any possibility of a reversal. The first mistake came after nine minutes, when losing a ball in the box became Gabriel Jesus' cooking for Rahim Sterling. Karim Benzema equalized in the 28th minute with a touchdown, but 20 minutes before the end the French stopper again lost a ball to Gabriel Jesus who overtook Thibaut Courtois and gave Pep Guardiola's side a 1-2 and 2-4 overall victory. As usual, Kevin de Bruyne was excellent in midfield, and much to his credit City managed to inflict on Zinedine Zidane their first knockout loss as Real coach.

Juventus' chances of a turnaround seemed higher than Real's, and for several reasons. The first is that the old lady hosted the rematch in Turin after a 0-1 loss in France, and the second is that Lyon has only played one official game since football was stopped. In the first half the man of the match was referee Felix Zweier who whistled for two hallucinatory penalties. Lyon were the first to enjoy it when Rodrigo's clean surf in Bentcourt turned into a penalty that Memphis Depay scored.

The Dutchman's goal forced Juventus to score three times, and in the 43rd minute Juventus had a chance to equalize from the spot after a free kick rubbed Memphis' hand wide. Cristiano Ronaldo, who if not he, scored the 1: 1 and gave Yuva hope for the second half. The problem is that apart from the Portuguese, the new Italian champion has continued her bad ability from the league. Paolo Dybala came in and was injured a few minutes later, Gonzalo Higuain looked rusty, and all that was left for Mauricio Sari was to pray for Cristiano's brilliance. The 35-year-old star continued on his own as he scored the 1-2 with a twenty-five-yard kick with his left foot, but his 130th goal in the Champions League did not stop. A very weak Yuba failed to crack the defense of the exhausted Lyon, who thanks to an away goal advance to the quarterfinals for the first time since 2010.
