An unsuccessful overtaking maneuver by Mick Schumacher probably cost his racing team Prema a double victory at the tenth round of the Formula 2 season. The Japanese Yuki Tsunoda from the Carlin team won the race at Silverstone, while Schumacher made it to second place. Third was Jack Aitken from Campos Racing.

Schumacher and his team-mate Robert Schwarzman both started from the front row in the sprint race and were in the first two places for most of the race. Schumacher tried again and again with attacks against Schwarzman, but couldn't get past. In the 19th of 21 laps he started the next overtaking maneuver against the Russian, but steered inward too early and rolled the rear wheel over Schwarzman's front wing, which in turn drove into Schumacher's rear. "What is he doing there?", Schwarzman called over the radio.

Both cars went off the track. Schwarzman slipped to 13th place and doesn't get any more points. Schumacher crossed the finish line in second place - 3.120 seconds behind winner Tsunoda. "I'm terribly sorry, I'll take the blame on myself," said Schumacher over the radio after crossing the finish line. "We both pushed each other," said the 21-year-old later on the podium: "We deserved first and second place."

The race stewards investigated the Prema drivers' accident, but did not detect any rule violations.

Schumacher finished the main race on Saturday in seventh place.
