Silverstone (AP) - Former Formula 1 driver Nick Heidfeld (43) rates Sebastian Vettel's end at Ferrari at the end of the year as an exemption for the four-time world champion.
When asked whether it was ultimately a blessing for Vettel that his contract was not extended, Heidfeld replied in an interview with "Bild am Sonntag": "I think so. On the one hand, this could be the case when it comes to his future team gets better results than Ferrari. On the other hand, it should be a blessing for Sebastian not to have to face all the pressure and complicity in the media for Ferrari's insufficient performance. He will be able to breathe freely again and start a refreshing new beginning. "
Vettel (33) has to leave Ferrari at the end of the season after six years together. For the coming season, Hesse will be associated with Racing Point, the future works team Aston Martin. Heidfeld drove himself in Formula 1 from 2000 to 2011, and currently works as a TV expert for Sky, among other things.
