Malaika Mihambo jumps to the next championship title

The 26-year-old had to be content with 6.71 meters in Braunschweig on Sunday. She couldn't jump the seven-meter mark with a short run-up of 16 instead of the usual 20 steps. Maryse Luzolo came in second with 6.40 meters ahead of Merle Homeier, who reached 6.34 meters.
In the absence of the Olympic champion Thomas Röhler, who has just become a father, ex-world champion Johannes Vetter has secured the German championship in javelin throwing. He prevailed with a strong 87.36 meters against defending champion Andreas Hofmann (77.35 meters). The 28-year-old still looked inhibited from his foot injury at the beginning of the season.
On Saturday, obstacle runner Gesa-Felicitas Krause missed her goal of the sixth championship title over 3000 meters. Other stars such as the runners Gina Lückenkemper or Konstanze Klosterhalfen stayed away from the championships.
