Silverstone (AP) - After the plagiarism allegations against Racing Point, majority owner Lawrence Stroll has protested the innocence of his Formula 1 team and sharply criticized the protests of the competitors.
"I have never cheated on anything in my life. These allegations are absolutely unacceptable and not true. My integrity - and that of my team - are beyond question," wrote the Canadian businessman in one of his rare public statements before the second Silverstone Grand Prix .
Stroll described himself as "extremely angry" about the allegations. He was "horrified" that Renault, McLaren, Ferrari and Williams have seized the opportunity to complain. "You drag our name through the dirt and I will not just stand by and accept it. I intend to take whatever measures are necessary to prove our innocence," wrote the father of Racing Point driver Lance Stroll.
Renault had protested against Racing Point for allegedly illegal copies of components. The stewards of the world motor sport federation FIA upheld the complaint, they sentenced the team of temporary driver Nico Hülkenberg to a deduction of 15 championship points and a fine of 400,000 euros. Ferrari, McLaren, Renault and Williams then declared their intention to proceed against the decision of the race stewards. Racing Point itself would like to keep a reduction in punishment open.
