The Al-Wehda team won the Republic Cup for the eighth time in its history after defeating Al-Majd by three goals to one in the final match of the tournament in its fifty-second edition, which brought them together today on the grounds of Tishreen Stadium in Damascus.
Al-Wehda entered the match with great offensive pressure, and was the most in possession of the ball and the most to reach the goal. Al-Majd activated offensively in the second half to equalize, but Al-Wehda was able to boost his lead with a second goal with a surprise shot that came in the 83rd minute through Abdel-Rahman Barakat to add Ali Rammal the third goal in the 86th minute, while Iyad Al-Awaid scored the goal to reduce the difference for Al-Majd in stoppage time The match ended with Al Wahda winning 3 goals to announce his crowning of the championship title.
Al-Wehda had qualified for the final match by defeating Al-Jaysh in the semi-final round with one goal after overcoming the fatwa in the quarter-finals with two unanswered goals.
Before the start of the final match, Tishreen was crowned the Premier League’s soccer shield after winning the league title this season for the third time in its history.
It is noteworthy that Al-Wehda has previously won the championship in 1993, 2003, 2012, 2013, 2015, 2016 and 2017.
