The Spanish first division soccer club Atlético Madrid has announced two coronavirus cases in the club. Atlético did not name any names on Sunday evening, four days before the Champions League quarter-finals in Lisbon against RB Leipzig. However, Spanish media claim to have learned that the people concerned are footballers. This was reported by the sports newspapers "As" and "Marca" in their online editions, as well as the radio station Cadena Ser.
There was initially no confirmation of this. It was feared that there could be more cases, it said.
In the course of the announcement of the positive corona tests on Sunday evening, the club announced that the entire 93-member delegation that is to go to Portugal would be tested again on Monday.
According to Spanish media reports, there is even a risk of the game being postponed in the event of positive tests among players. Atlético will play against Leipzig on Thursday (9 p.m.).
On Saturday, according to the information, all delegation members were tested for the corona virus in the training center in Majadahonda near Madrid. The people who tested positive went into quarantine at home after the results were announced, it said.
The European Football Union Uefa and all authorities and associations in Spain and Portugal have already been informed. The delegation's trip to Portugal, originally scheduled for Monday, will be postponed due to the new tests required by the UEFA action protocol. The new travel plan has not yet been set.
