Duisburg / Gelsenkirchen (AP) - The Ukrainian champions Shakhtar Donetsk and Sevilla FC from Spain have reached the semi-finals of the Europa League tournament in North Rhine-Westphalia.
Donetsk, which had prevailed against VfL Wolfsburg in the round of 16, won 4-1 (2-0) against FC Basel on Tuesday evening in Gelsenkirchen. Seville beat Wolverhampton Wanderers 1-0 (0-0) just 40 kilometers away in Duisburg. Schachtjor will face Leverkusen conqueror Inter Milan in the semi-finals on Monday in Düsseldorf. Record winner Sevilla will play against Manchester United in Cologne on Sunday.
Donetsk took an early lead through Júnior Moraes (2nd), Taison (22nd), Alan Patrick (75th / foul penalty) and Dodô (88th) followed suit. The FC Basel, which had thrown Eintracht Frankfurt out of the competition, disappointed especially offensively. The hit from Ricky van Wolfswinkel (90. + 2) didn't change anything. In Duisburg, Lucas Ocampos (88th) met late for Sevilla. In the Wolves, Raúl Jiménez failed with a penalty kick against Sevilla goalkeeper Yassine Bounou (13th).
