Benfica apparently wants Luca Waldschmidt

A possible transfer of national striker Luca Waldschmidt from Bundesliga club SC Freiburg to Benfica Lisbon is getting closer, according to a media report. According to information from "Bild", representatives of the Portuguese record champions will travel to Freiburg for negotiations this week. According to an earlier "Bild" report, the three-time national player apparently has a release clause of 23 million euros in his contract. But due to the corona-related cuts in the professional clubs, Freiburg will probably not get this amount. The transfer fee should be around twelve million euros, which means that Waldschmidt would still be the third most expensive exit in the club's history. Freiburg's sports director Klemens Hartenbach recently emphasized that he would like to keep Waldschmidt: "With a good, stable season, Luca can take another big step forward." The 24-year-old is under contract in Freiburg until June 2022.

Around three weeks ago, the Portuguese TV station "TVI 24" reported that Benfica was interested in Waldschmidt.

BVB shows interest in young player Ricci

According to media reports in Italy, runner-up Borussia Dortmund is interested in 18-year-old midfielder Samuele Ricci from Serie B club FC Empoli. The transfer fee for the native Tuscan, who plays in Italy's U19 national team, is estimated at 15 million euros. This is reported by the "Gazzetta dello Sport". The AC Florence, club of the ex-Bayern star Franck Ribéry, and the SSC Napoli have allegedly signaled interest in Ricci. The central midfielder made 28 appearances in the past season. He did not score a goal. Ricci would not be part of the first eleven. In Dortmund, Emre Can and Axel Witsel are placed in the central midfield.

Leipzig next season without chic

The Champions League quarter-finalist RB Leipzig has to plan for the coming season without attacker Patrik Schick according to "Bild" information. A further obligation of the 24-year-old loaned from AS Roma has therefore not come about. In addition, the Bundesliga club wanted to borrow the striker again, but the Italians are said to have refused. The ten goals and three assists for Leipzig did not go unnoticed in the Premier League. Several clubs should be interested. After national player Timo Werner, who is moving to Chelsea, Schick would be the second important offensive player that RB has to give up.

Canadian breaks transfer records

He was considered a transfer candidate at FC Bayern Munich and Borussia Mönchengladbach - now talented goalscorer Jonathan David has probably decided against making the leap into the Bundesliga. The attacker from the Belgian first division club KAA Gent is aiming for a move to the French Ligue 1 instead. That's what the 20-year-old told L'Équipe. "Yes, I want to move to Lille," the French newspaper quoted him as saying. David scored 23 goals and ten assists in 40 games in all competitions last season.

The transfer fee is around 27 million euros, and Ghent receives a further 5 million euros if it is resold. A player from the Belgian league has never cost a higher transfer fee, the most expensive departures so far have been Youri Tielemans and Wesley, who each brought in EUR 25 million for RSC Anderlecht and Club Brugge. Lille has never invested so much money in a new signing either. For the French, the former Wolfsburg Victor Osimhen is still at the top.

First summer transfer for Jürgen Klopp

English champions Liverpool FC have made their first transfer for the coming season perfect. Jürgen Klopp's club signed the Greek international Kostas Tsimikas from Olympiacos Piraeus on Monday. The online portal "The Athletic" writes that the Greeks should get around 13 million euros in transfer for the 24-year-old. With Piraeus he played two games in the Champions League group stage against Bayern. The 24-year-old left-back was given a long-term contract with Liverpool. "He's a very good footballer with an attitude towards victory and competition. I like his mentality very much," said Klopp.
