The Brazilian first division soccer team Atlético Goianiense has obtained permission to use four players who tested positive for the corona virus in the league.

The club from the central Brazilian city of Goiania referred after a report by the portal "Globoesporte" before the game against Flamengo Rio de Janeiro with the former Bundesliga professionals Diego and Rafinha on Wednesday evening (local time) that the players were in the final phase of the infection and had already fulfilled all quarantine measures. Therefore, there would no longer be any risk of transmission. The Brazilian Football Association, CBF, based in Rio, followed the Atlético GO argument. One would be based on a rule of the World Health Organization (WHO).

Two dozen positive corona tests had already questioned the start of the Brazilian soccer leagues in the midst of the rampant corona pandemic at the weekend. Ten players from the first division Goiás Esporte Clube tested positive before the game against São Paulo FC. The game was ultimately postponed. A game was also postponed in the third division after twelve players tested positive at Sociedade Imperatriz from the northern state of Maranhão. According to a media report, at least 150 top division players tested positive.

After the USA, Brazil is currently one of the hot spots of the corona pandemic. Brazil has broken the 100,000 death-related mark of Covid-19. In addition, more than three million people have been shown to be infected with the Sars-CoV-2 pathogen. Brazil's President Jair Bolsonaro, who has meanwhile infected himself, has been criticized for his inaction in the fight against the virus. At public appearances, he repeatedly does not wear a mask, shakes hands and walks into crowds. Previously, he had dismissed the coronavirus as "mild flu" several times.
