And with all the hygiene, distance and behavior rules, I cannot lead a training session for 20 men alone. I just can't do that, ”emphasizes Helmut Schug, coach of the A-class. Florian Herbst has not been his assistant coach for a long time, so Schug was alone on the sidelines in the first half of the 2019/2020 season.
If he had three or four helpers who would support him with training, etc., the situation would be different. But as long as that is not the case, there will be no training under supervision. He does not want to be responsible if the regulations are not followed. The danger is too great for the coach. “I'm 63, so I belong to the risk group.” Mittenwald only wants to start training when the recent infection process has calmed down again and there are further relaxation of the hygiene rules. "I agreed that with the board of directors," assures Schug.
Therefore, the TCM does not participate in the newly created league cup, which should start in mid-September (we reported). Another reason is that Schug fears that he will not be able to provide a team during the week. “That's always a problem.” In the League Cup, however, only one out of five match days was not scheduled for the weekend. “Still, I'm not angry about not taking part in the competition. If it still exists next year, we'll be there. "
No league cup and later start of training for the FCM
The FCM could do without the league cup without any problems, as participation at the district level was voluntary. It looks different in the league. A restart is planned for the beginning of September. Does FC Mittenwald want to return to league operations and thus to competition mode unprepared? Schug's answer: “Yes. I'd rather start with a training deficit than have big problems. ”In this context, the coach refers to the comfortable table situation in the A-Class. TCM ranks third and has 28 points on its account. The first relegation place is 21 points away. The gap to the top is not much with five points on the leaders SG Oberau / Farchant, "but we have no ambitions for promotion anyway". Schug emphasizes that the district class would come too early for his team.
He is therefore looking forward to the restart with a relaxed attitude. In addition, due to the recent developments in the Corona crisis, he is skeptical that points will come back from September. “There are currently more important things than football. And when it starts again, please be smart. "
