Berlin (dpa) - The handball, basketball and ice hockey leagues are working together to get the spectators back into the halls.

Berlin (dpa) - The handball, basketball and ice hockey leagues are working together to get the spectators back into the halls.

The guidelines of the HBL, BBL and DEL are based on the framework concept of the German Football League (DFL) and the German Football Association (DFB). For the three hall profiles, the game operation with spectators is economically necessary for survival.

THIS IS THE CURRENT STATE

HANDBALL: The Handball Bundesliga (HBL) wants to start the new season on October 1st - if possible with spectators. HBL has drawn up a corresponding hygiene concept and presented it to the clubs, and discussions with the local authorities are already underway at some locations. Club representatives have already publicly warned several times that long-term games without spectators would jeopardize the sport's business model.

BASKETBALL: The Basketball Bundesliga (BBL) wants to start the new season on November 6th. At the Bundesliga locations there will be different solutions with a view to the number of spectators and the structural implementation of the hygiene regulations for the admission of spectators. Each club must develop its own protection and hygiene concept. This must be approved by the responsible health department. The clubs can also play without spectators, but must develop a location-specific hall concept so that a high-quality representation in the TV picture is guaranteed.

ICE HOCKEY: The German Ice Hockey League wants to start the new season on November 13th, if possible with spectators. The league has left a back door open. "Of course we know that the framework conditions can change again and again in these Corona times," said DEL managing director Gernot Tripcke. "That is why we can only start if the authorities give the go-ahead and the clubs are economically viable." Individual hygiene concepts are currently being drawn up, and the clubs are heavily dependent on audience income.
