Barcelona (AP) - The hunt for Formula 1 industry leader Mercedes will be a matter of time for Red Bull.
"We have to see how many races there are actually left. At the moment we are driving until December. That gives us time to gain as much performance as possible," said team boss Christian Horner in an interview with "auto-motor-und- sport.de ".
Driver Max Verstappen, who won the anniversary race at Silverstone in front of the two Mercedes drivers Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas, also knows "that we are ahead of everyone else, except for Mercedes. And they are our goal". The 22-year-old Dutchman is a "realist", stressed Horner.
In the standings, Verstappen is 30 points behind six-time world champion and defending champion Hamilton before the Spanish Grand Prix next weekend at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. In 2016, Verstappen won a top-class motorsport race there for the first time. When asked if he would say that Verstappen is racing at Hamilton level, Horner replied: "In any case, I see no reason not to look at it that way."
