Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola announced today that Sergio Aguero, the team's top scorer throughout the ages, will not participate in the Champions League quarter-final match against Olympique Lyon, as he has not fully recovered from knee surgery.
Guardiola said in a statement today: “Aguero is still in Barcelona to complete the recovery program” after his surgery in June.
Despite being selected in the squad for the mini-tournament in Lisbon, Aguero will not be ready even to take the bench.
If City wins the match against the French club on Saturday, it will face the winner next Wednesday from Bayern Munich and Barcelona, which makes it short for Aguero to regain full fitness to participate.
In the absence of the Argentine player, Brazilian striker Gabriel Jesus will probably do the job instead.
