Friday, 14 August 2020, 20:46The quarter-final stage of the Champions League reaches its climax tonight (Friday) in Lisbon with Barcelona's meeting with Bayern Munich. The Catalans will try to save their season after the disappointing end and loss of the La Liga championship, in what will be their 13th consecutive quarter-final (an all-time record). Barça come away with a six-game unbeaten streak against German rivals, having been relegated to Bayern Munich in the 2015 semi-finals, knowing that the ability they displayed in the last 16 against Napoli will not be enough for them against the Bavarians.
In its head-to-head balance against Bayern itself, however, Barcelona can not hang on: a lone win alongside three losses it has had in the last four meetings between the teams, since 2013. If Kika Stein's team stuttered in the last 16, the German champions on the other end of the spectrum. 1: 7 in the summary of the games over Chelsea showed that Bayern are still one of the leading candidates to go all the way, especially considering the monstrous fitness of Robert Lewandowski.
As for the line-ups, Kika Stein moved to a four-tie formation when Arturo Vidal opened up against the ex at the expense of Antoine Griezmann who paid the price for the weak game against Napoli. Sergio Busquets returned from suspension and opened for the Chilean side with a link at the expense of Ivan Rakitić. Jerome Boateng, on the other hand, is fit and developing and the surprise comes from the direction of Ivan Frisic, who was developed in the squad instead of Kingsley Koeman. Benjamin Favre is injured and Yuzua Kimish serves as a right-back.
