Five players from the Wydad Casablanca football club (WAC), one of the most successful clubs in the Moroccan championship, tested positive for Covid-19 on Friday, according to the club.
Their state of health is "stable" but the match scheduled for Friday against FAR Rabat had to be postponed, according to the team.
Two other matches, which were to be played on the same day, were postponed "in accordance with the decision of the competent authorities to place the players in confinement" of three teams, according to the Moroccan Football Federation.
The team is one of the big clubs of the economic capital Casablanca, with its eternal rival, Raja. Wydad Casablanca was a finalist in the last African Champions League.
Ban on broadcasting matches in cafes
The Moroccan first division championship, Botola, resumed at the end of July after a four-month hiatus due to the pandemic.
The matches take place behind closed doors and all players have theoretically passed drug tests before the resumption.
A country of 35 million inhabitants, Morocco officially lists 39,241 infected people, including 611 deaths, since the registration of the first case in early March.

In recent days, the country has faced an increase in infections with the new coronavirus, with more than 1,000 cases recorded daily against a few dozen at the start of the pandemic.
The authorities even had to cordoned off neighborhoods in Casablanca and imposed new restrictions, such as the ban on showing matches in cafes.
