In what is probably the era of the most predictable results in the history of Formula 1, the International Automobile Federation (FIA) aims to hamper as much as it can the walks in the park that Mercedes has given itself since 2014 came on the scene. hybrid technology in the championship. The brand of the star has six undeniable doubles, all of them celebrated with several great margin prizes, thanks to the most dominant car ever.

As wine experts say, the car from the Brackley (Great Britain) team wins over time, and year after year incorporates new elements with which Mercedes not only wins, but also demoralizes the competition. This is probably why the FIA has decided to make use of the regulations once again, in an attempt to reduce as much as possible the universe that separates the performance offered by the W11 driven by Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas from the rest of the cars in the race. grill.

In a letter sent to teams this week, the Federation reported its plans to outlaw the specific engine maps used in timed sessions. These configurations make it possible to extract the full potential of the engine and push it to the limit, something that normally coincides with the two fast lap attempts of the final screening of the qualifying session (Q3), those that leave the Sunday grid established. In this communication, the FIA made it known that the use of these systems will be prohibited as of the Belgian Grand Prix, scheduled for next day 30. Thus, this Saturday, in Montmeló (15.00, Movistar Formula 1), Mercedes will.

In the last six and a half seasons a total of 126 pole positions have been put into play , of which the constructor from Stuttgart has taken 99, representing 78.5% of the total. In 61 of those 126 grills, Mercedes has monopolized the first line with its two cars, an unequivocal proof of the revenues that the Party Mode offers . Of those 99 poles , 60 have been awarded to Hamilton, while the remaining 35 have been shared by Bottas (13) and Nico Rosberg (26).

"The complexity of the different engine configurations makes it very difficult for the FIA to guarantee compliance with all regulations relating to engines at specific times of each event," reads the letter sent to the structures. The competition's regulatory body justifies its intervention based on the possibility that, with these maps, runners can receive some kind of assistance when driving, something that the regulations prohibit. When this modification is applied in the regulations, the configuration of the power unit must be the same for both the timed and the following day's race.

Asked if this change will affect Mercedes more than the rest of the formations, Hamilton was restrictive: “I don't think so. It is clear that what is sought is to stop us. But I don't think they get the result they want. I don't think it's going to be a big change ”.
