Ugine (AP) - The German tour hope Emanuel Buchmann had to give up on the fourth stage of the Dauphiné tour. According to the organizers, the professional cyclist from Bora-hansgrohe fell on a descent from the Col de Plan Bois after 29 kilometers.
Buchmann was taken to the hospital, he had deep abrasions, as his team announced via Twitter. The 27-year-old had previously been in third place in the overall standings. His team mate Gregor Mühlberger from Austria and the Dutchman Steven Kruijswijk also gave up the tour on the penultimate stage.
Tour de France winner Egan Bernal had already stopped at the start in Ugine, France. The Ineos team confirmed the exit of the 23-year-old cyclist from Colombia. "He has back problems, so it is best for him to take it easy. I don't think it's a big problem," said team-mate Geraint Thomas. Bernal had lost nine seconds to overall leader Primoz Roglic from Slovenia the day before when he reached the mountain in Saint-Martin-de-Belleville.
