Sunday, 16 August 2020, 17:15The announcement of the peace agreement between Israel and the United Arab Emirates, and the possibility of cooperation with other Arab countries, gave hope to many, including Saudi footballer Khaled al-Hamdi. The 32-year-old midfielder, who belongs to the Al Faisley group, posted the Israeli flag on Twitter alongside the Saudi Arabian flag and added an emoji of heart and prayer. Nice, no?
It turns out that Saudis and many Muslims in general were less enthusiastic about al-Hamdi's gesture, who was immediately attacked with a variety of insults as well as calls for his arrest.

The tweet that caused the storm (screenshot)While they were trying to find out if he was really the one responsible for the tweet, al-Hamdi had already deleted it, but later he moved to the Snapshot network where he posted a picture of Tiberias and wrote: "I will come soon, with the help of the name."
Surfers then began accusing al-Hamdi of "selling himself to the Zionists" and calling him "the enemy of Islam." Others demanded that the Al Paisley Group remove him from the squad or release his contract, and some even chose to slander him regarding his sexual orientation.
The defender made three appearances for the Saudi national team and is due to move to Al Shabab in October.
