Lisbon (AP) - Bayern boss Karl-Heinz Rummenigge warned after the surprising Champions League knockout of Manchester City against the favorite scare Olympique Lyon before the semi-final opponent of Munich.
"I saw Lyon win. They deservedly won," said the chairman of the board of the German record champions in Portugal of the German press agency about the surprising 3-1 win for the French in the quarter-finals of the final tournament in Lisbon against the team from ex- Bayern coach Pep Guardiola.
"After Lyon kicked Juventus Turin out with Cristiano Ronaldo in the last sixteen a week ago, they showed for the second time that this team should not be underestimated. They play with great dedication and can cause pain to their opponents with their fast strikers", said Rummenigge. The 64-year-old is full of anticipation for the duel this Wednesday: "Everyone expected that Barcelona would play against Manchester City. And now the semi-final is Bayern versus Lyon!"
Rummenigge sees no signs of aloofness in the Bayern team after the triumphant 8: 2 against Barcelona. "I was in the dressing room after the game. There was no party, nobody freaked out. The team is totally focused and will approach the semi-finals very seriously. We hope that we will achieve our big goal against Lyon: the final!" The board boss also has full confidence in coach Hansi Flick: "He has the quality to lead the team."
