2020-08-17T21:40:01.533Z

Paris SG have already accumulated 118 million euros in earnings thanks to their European campaign while OL have amassed 89 million.

Paris SG and Lyon are only two steps from an unprecedented coronation in the Champions League. Opposed respectively to Red Bull Leipzig (Tuesday 9:00 p.m.) and Bayern Munich (Wednesday 9:00 p.m.), the two French teams can already rub their hands: their journey this season until the semi-finals will allow them to touch to fill their boxes. Between them, the French representatives will receive 207 million euros in earnings: 118 M € for Paris SG and 89 M € for Olympique Lyonnais.

Account specializing in the football business, @Swissramble reveals that Paris SG, is, at this stage of the competition, the European club which has garnered the most gains since the start of the competition, ahead of Bayern Munich (€ 111 million) and FC Barcelona (104 M €). Lyon is in sixth position.

After the quarter-finals, 3 clubs have earned over € 100m from the 2019/20 Champions League: PSG € 118m, Bayern Munich € 111m and Barcelona € 104m. These are followed by #MCFC € 99m, Atletico Madrid € 95m, Lyon € 89m, Juventus € 87m, Real Madrid € 84m, #CFC € 81m and #LFC € 80m. pic.twitter.com/JppoXDsTbl

Four criteria define European Cup winnings

The receipts of clubs in C1 are calculated around four criteria: a fixed participation bonus (15.25 M €), another variable depending on the results and progress in the competition (2.7 M € for a victory , € 900,000 for a draw, € 9.5 million for accession to the round of 16, € 10.5 million for the quarterfinals and € 12 million for the semi-finals), a third bonus linked to the club's UEFA coefficient and his past in the European Cups for ten years and a final part linked to the variable distribution of TV rights (which will be calculated at the end of the season). On the other hand, the clubs had to sit on the revenues linked to the counters since the resumption of the C1 because the matches took place behind closed doors.

The winner will receive an additional 19 million euros

If they lift the Champions League trophy, the Parisians can therefore hope to touch € 137 million million, and Lyon € 108 million. Because each finalist will receive an additional € 15 million and the winner, a bonus of € 4 million. Whether or not they are improved in the coming days, these loots will allow the two French clubs to better overcome the economic and financial consequences of the Covid-19 crisis and the end of competitions (impact on ticketing and cancellation of the last tranche of Ligue 1 TV rights in particular).

At the end of March, L'Equipe estimated that the loss of earnings of Paris SG (whose budget exceeds 600 million euros this season) due to the health crisis amounted to 215 million euros. For OL, the future gains will correspond to a little less than a third of the budget (300 M € approximately). An amount that will largely compensate for the possible non-qualification of Gones in the European Cup next season. For Rudi Garcia's men, the only hope of playing the C1 in 2020-2021 is to win the final in Lisbon in a few days.
