The 34-year-old midfielder, who left Manchester City after a decade, was due to move to Italian side Lazio, but eventually returned to La Liga with a two-year contract with the Basques.
Real Sociedad, who finished last season in sixth place in Spain and will play in the Europa League, previously revealed that the shirt of Martin Edgor who returned to Real Madrid, will go to someone else, and later surprised when she found out that it was actually David Silva.

Earlier, Manchester City announced that it would build a statue of Silva outside its stadium. Silva is the second player to be awarded a statue of him outside the stadium after City have already announced the construction of a statue for Vincent Company, the two statues are due to be unveiled in 2021. In addition, City will create a mosaic of the midfielder from his 1-6 draw against Manchester United in 2011 and will be displayed at the training ground. He will receive a copy of the mosaic to his home.
