Barcelona Football Club President Josep Maria Bartomeu announced that Dutchman Ronald Koeman will coach the Catalan team, succeeding the dismissed coach, Quique Setien.
"Coman will be the coach, and these players will continue a different project with a coach that we Catalans know well not only as a player but as a coach," Bartomeu was quoted by the Mundo Deportivo newspaper today.
"We are betting on Koeman because we know him well, how he thinks, the way he plays, and also his experience as a former player in the dream team of Johan Cruyff, as he knows Barcelona."
Coman arrived, according to press reports, to Barcelona to sign a two-season contract with the "Blaugrana", to expire in 2022, with the possibility of reducing it until June 2021 only after the presidential elections.
Press reports indicated that Koeman agreed in turn to leave the position of coach of the Netherlands national team, which was aspiring to compete in the European Nations Cup “Euro 2020” with him, but the tournament was postponed to next year due to the outbreak of the new Corona virus.
Koman defended the colors of Barcelona in the period between "1989 and 1995" and crowned him with all titles, most notably the Spanish League 4 times in a row and the European Cup.
