Maccabi Tel Aviv will host Sudova next week (August 25 or 26) in the second qualifying round of the Champions League. The Lithuanian champion worked hard tonight (Wednesday) and defeated Flora Tallinn only with penalties away after a 1-1 draw in 120 minutes. Bosnian Mihart Topchagic, who found the net against Maccabi Tel Aviv last season, equalized with a penalty in the 78th minute after a goal by Rauno Safinen (49). In a duel from the penalty spot, it was 36-year-old Konstantin Vasilyev who missed for the Estonians and after another foul on each side, Topchagic finally made it 2: 4.
The winner next week will advance to the third round whose draw will take place on 31 August, while the loser will advance to the third qualifying round of the Europa League.

Will the Yellows take revenge? Sudova players celebrate at Bloomfield last season (Photo: Danny Maron)Sudova, as I recall, was the team that ousted Maccabi Tel Aviv last season with two identical 1: 2 victories in the Europa League qualifiers. Last May, the 64-year-old coach Shaulius Shirmelis arrived, trying to lead the team to a fourth consecutive win in the Lithuanian championship and also to combine homes in Europe.
Croatian striker Josip Tadic, formerly Belberkozen and Dinamo Zagreb, is the prominent name in Sudova. Both Samir Carla and substitute Aligios Incaouskas, who scored against the Yellows last season, are still on a squad that includes 14 foreigners (compared to Flora Tallinn, for example, whose entire squad consists of Estonian players).
