Slalom in Courchevel - instead of in the USA
Photo: Getty ImagesBecause of the coronavirus pandemic, the Alpine Ski World Cups in North America were canceled early. The world federation FIS announced. This affects the women's competitions planned for the end of November and early December in Killington (USA) and Lake Louise (Canada) as well as the men's races also in Lake Louise and Beaver Creek (USA). The plan was to catch up as many races as possible in Europe, it said.
In the next few weeks, the FIS wants to push ahead with the relevant planning so that a new calendar can be adopted at the end of September. Val d'Isère in France has already offered to host an additional and therefore second men's weekend in December. For women, St. Moritz in Switzerland is to take over one of the Lake Louise runs. Further technology events are planned in Courchevel, France.
"The North American races were always two special weeks for the whole World Cup tour and we are disappointed that we have not found a way to put them on the calendar this year," said FIS General Secretary Sarah Lewis.
