Italian referee Daniele Orsato will lead the debates on Sunday evening (9 p.m.) during the Champions League final between PSG and Bayern Munich in Lisbon. This will be a first in a final of a competition organized by UEFA for the 44-year-old whistle, international referee since 2010.
The Italian has, however, already officiated in two European matches played by the Parisians. And it had rather gone bad with first a large victory on the lawn of Celtic Glasgow in September 2017 (5-0). Two years later, he was on the lawn of Old Trafford, in the round of 16 first leg won against Manchester United (2-0). The Italian had notably expelled Paul Pogba at the very end of the game. And he was not there during the rout of the return match at the Parc where PSG had left the competition prematurely by losing at the Parc des Princes (1-3) ...
This season, Daniele Orsato has officiated in eight Champions League matches, including the round of 16 first leg between Real Madrid and Manchester City (1-2), last February. Last season, he was the fourth official in the Europa League final between Chelsea and Arsenal (4-1).
Mr. Orsato will be assisted by his compatriots Lorenzo Manganelli and Alessandro Giallatini. The fourth official referee will be the Romanian Ovidiu Hategan. Another Italian, Massimiliano Irrati, will be the assistant video referee (VAR).
